What is Cryotherapy?
Benefits:Whole body cryotherapy has a multitude of benefits. Professional sports teams use WBC as a means to reduce muscle soreness/pain, decrease recovery time, and improve flexibility. Cryotherapy has been found to improve the function of the immune system, boost endorphin release, decrease stress levels, and improve lymphatic flow and blood circulation. Additionally, cryotherapy can offer a caloric burn by increasing metabolism. Some studies suggest that cryotherapy users can burn up to 400 calories after a 3-minute session!
How it works:Once the client is dressed and ready (see below for what to wear), the cryosauna is “pre-cooled”. A pre-cool is necessary to drop the inside of the cryochamber to approximately -40 degrees Celsius, which is the starting temperature for every session. Once -40 is reached, the client steps inside. There are risers inside the chamber to ensure that their head is just above the top of the cryosauna. The user then takes their robe off and hands it to the tech.
What to expect:Once “Start” is pressed, the 3-minute session begins. The inside of the tank is cooled by compressed liquid nitrogen. The user will turn 90 degrees every 30 seconds. As the time goes by, the temperature inside the chamber drops until it hits the target temperature. Our unit has 3 different levels. Level 1 target temperature is -90 degrees Celsius. Level 2 target temperature is -110 degrees Celsius and Level 3’s target temperature is -120 degrees Celsius. If the user can’t make the full time due to the temperature, anxiety, etc- the session can be stopped.

As of now, there is not enough long-term research to justify whole body cryotherapy being covered by insurance.
How frequently should someone do cryotherapy?
After a session, most clients feel relief for a few hours or the remainder of the day. However, results do vary person to person. It is recommended that patients come 1-2x/week, depending on how they feel after the session.
